Who has never had the temptation to his account, to become his own boss But how many were hampered by the lack of ideas, the fear of failure or lack of knowledge of an area The franchise, as other forms of organized trade, to address a number of these pitfalls, if however the candidate prepares well its project. This form of contract associated business owner of a mark or sign (the franchisor) with one or more independent traders (franchisees). The system is based on the reiteration of successful proven by the franchisor on a pilot site. The head of network is committed to providing its sign, its know-how and its assistance to franchisees, who must in Exchange to pay an entrance fee and royalties on their sales.
Variety profiles
In practice, according to the latest annual survey on the franchise conducted by the Institute CSA for the Banque Populaire and the French Federation of frankness, the average age of the franchisees is 46 years. They have an average of 8 years seniority within their network, employ 7.2 people and a vast majority holds a single point of sale (75). Since 2006, the population of franchisees tends to be masculiniser: there are now 60 of men compared with 40 of women. However, a franchisee of 3 employs her spouse in the company and 44 of the franchisees who live as a couple say they will be helped by their spouse in their activity. Difficult to draw a sketch of the franchisee, as the candidates backgrounds very various. "The franchise provides opportunities for retraining, as the franchisor provides all the keys for success in an industry that is not known, explains Chantal Zimmer, General delegate of the French Federation of the franchise." This advantage attracts applicants employment, but also disillusioned employees who want to take their destiny in hand by launching in entrepreneurship. "In addition, more and more isolated traders decide to join a network because they realize that they lack effective means of communication, including in times of difficult conditions. It can also be an opportunity for them to modernize their methods of work and their places of sale.
Requirements to measure
But whatever its profile, the franchise candidates must hold a number of strengths: have a temperament of contractor, be worker and be prepared to take risks - as entrepreneurs, even accompanied, is never a guaranteed success. According to the chosen activity, the franchisee must have the meaning of the trade, the ability to manager a team and Manager skills. It is especially essential to possess "the spirit network", i.e. agree to comply to the letter the concept of the franchisor and participate in the sharing of experience with other franchisees of the sign. Furthermore, entrepreneurship requires a significant personal investment in time and money. The candidate must therefore commit to a project that corresponds to its financial capabilities, without excessive optimism. Because in addition to the initial investment required for the launch of the case, by becoming a contractor, the franchisee loses the comfort of a regular salary, and can generally not (or little) pay the first months of activity. In 2010, the net average income of franchisees rises as 2 766 euros, knowing that 38 of franchisees receive less than 1 666 euros net per month. Before entering, better therefore measure the scope of the commitment that we take, for himself and his entourage, to assess if the game really is worth the candle!
Verbatim
Chantal Zimmer, Delegate General of the French Federation of the Franchise.Chantal Zimmer, Delegate General of the French Federation of the franchise: "the strength of the franchise is in the clear definition of roles: the franchisor is the initiator, it is responsible for the strategy of the network and its sustainability, while the franchisee is the Ambassador, who must provide the consumer the promise of the sign on the ground." It is therefore a delegation cross power and skills: the franchisee assigns the responsibility of its strategy long-term to the franchisor, which, in turn, entrusts its strategy short-term franchisee. This is specified in our code of ethics, the cornerstone of the franchise. This system is more binding and demanding than many other forms of trade, but also explains what efficiency: since 20 years, the franchise has continued to professionalize. Today, it reached maturity in France. It is now common that one improvises not franchisor or franchisee: should combine skills and a State of mind, i.e. have the belief of the best interests of the network.
